The British Medical Journal (BMJ) published a study Finnish researcher in September 2019. This was about findings for a medicament treatment of gambling addiction. The results are based on the use of an active ingredient named Naloxone and are promising at first glance.
Clinical treatment of gambling addiction possible with medicines?
Gambling addiction , just like a drug addiction or sex added, is classified as a disease and is officially treated as such. However, there is no easy-to-use methodology that allows patients to integrate them into everyday clinical. Often, theraphical sessions must be visited or you request an exclusion from various casinos - which is often associated with a whole lot of paperwork.
Finnish researchers now have the results from one Pilot study published by 2017. This is about the active ingredient "Naxolon", which was administered in gambling addiction. For this purpose, questions were answered for the compatibility, effect and realizability.
How is gambling addiction understood in the scientific sense?
Just like a buying addiction, a game addiction is also about a substance-bound dependency. Such diseases are categorized under the term: fabric-bound behavioral breeding. Uncontrolled game activates the regions in the brain, which are also addressed for search substances.How does Naloxon look?
Naloxone prevents the distribution of dopamine by blocking certain receptors and thus prevents communication. Dopamine is considered a lucky fabric and, for example, is distributed in sustainable sports. Also through television, videos and gambling arises dopamine. Among other things, the messenger is also responsible for behaviors and dissolves, for example, inhibitions. As a result, players are, for example, risk-making and playing on higher missions.
Results of the pilot study
Two groups have been tested that have worked with differently high dosages. Overall, there were 20 participants. Subjects that revenue the drug did not participate in gambling at 73% of the days of the test period. The intensity has also diminished significantly.
Some participants could also significantly reduce symptoms associated with gambling addiction.
Compared, the higher metered group had a much less likely to play again. The group with a smaller dosage, however, could only record a small decline.
It should be noticeable that student participants of the group with a smaller dosage have reported more often about side effects of the active substance. Side effects include headaches, nausea and loss of appetite. It also showed that this group did not play more often, but has used higher missions and a larger budget for gambling.
Results from the perspective of subjects
Although there were side effects that the study occurred only occasionally, the subjects are positive. The intake of a nasal spray is particularly good. Thus, no one would have to face funny questions that could possibly come from related parties. The Medikamt is perfect "camouflaged".
Following the experiment, all those involved have agreed to participate in further attempts.
Will we soon experience a gambling addiction revolution?
A study with only 20 participants is not sound enough to really go through as a recognized research result. This lacks participants and in addition to a reference group with placebos.
However, it is promising that a further study in Finland is running at this time. This has 130 participants and should be published in the spring of 2023.
Although substance-bound addictions such as a drug addiction already established the use of medicaments, substance-bound dependencies such as gambling addiction still with the previously only generally known theeapio: the willpower of the addiction to withstand.
The Finnish researchers want to clean up with the "prejudice" and show that a complete treatment with medicaments is possible.
